DMV Offices Closed for Columbus Day
Customers Encouraged to Conduct DMV Transactions Online

RICHMOND - All Virginia Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) customer service centers (CSC) will be closed on Monday, October 10, 2011 in observance of Columbus Day.

When offices are closed or anytime, customers may sign up for a myDMV customer account and conduct their DMV transactions online. This new service allows customers to save time by receiving DMV information through email or phone, and they can manage their DMV record without visiting a customer service center.

Customers may visit www.dmvNOW.com/myDMV to set up their myDMV account and get a Personal Identification Number (PIN) to conduct secure transactions. With a myDMV account and PIN, customers may:

  • Review their driving record
  • Renew their decals
  • Renew and replace their driver's license or ID card
  • Print their vehicle's original electronic title or replace their title
  • Report that their vehicle was sold or traded
  • Change their address and organ donor status
  • Request a compliance summary revealing steps necessary to reinstate driving privileges
  • Make a reinstatement fee payment
  • Change or activate their PIN

After setting up their myDMV account, customers are encouraged to opt to receive their decal renewal notices through email, phone or text message rather than getting a paper reminder via the U.S. mail. More than half a million Virginians have signed up for this new service since the option was launched last summer.

The 600,000 customers who are no longer receiving paper reminders via U.S. mail will save the Commonwealth more than $350,000. Each piece of snail mail not processed by DMV saves 59 cents in printing, processing and postage fees.

"Hundreds of thousands of Virginians are receiving their decal reminders in a convenient method that saves taxpayers money and is environmentally-friendly," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "I thank these customers and encourage more to sign up for this cost-saving service."
