Portsmouth DMV Select Celebrates Five-Year Anniversary

RICHMOND - The Portsmouth DMV Select, which provides selected DMV services to surrounding residents, will hold a five-year anniversary event on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 2:30 p.m. The Portsmouth Select is located at City Hall inside the Commissioner of the Revenue office at 801 Crawford Street, Suite A. The anniversary celebration will feature remarks from state and local officials, and a flag presentation ceremony.
"We are excited to celebrate our five-year partnership with DMV," said Franklin D. Edmondson, Portsmouth Commissioner of the Revenue. "Five years ago, DMV and our office determined that there was a need for another convenient location for DMV transactions, especially for citizens required to resolve issues at City Hall before conducting DMV business. These customers have a fast and convenient option for completing all their government business without traveling to two separate locations."
DMV's mobile customer service center, called DMV 2 Go, will also serve customers outside the Portsmouth DMV Select on Dec. 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., supplementing the many transactions already available at the Portsmouth Select.
The Portsmouth DMV Select is one of 57 Select partners throughout the state. Select partners, who are private citizens and local governments, contract with DMV to conduct vehicle-related transactions. Each DMV Select has online access to DMV allowing the partner to update customer records immediately as well as issue vehicle decals. The Portsmouth DMV Select's hours are Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
"DMV Selects allow us to ensure that heavily-populated areas where the agency cannot build multiple customer service centers are not underserved," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb. "DMV Selects, including the one in Portsmouth, have been an integral part of DMV's service delivery model for 80 years."
