New DMV Mobile Office to Supplement Amherst DMV Select Services
DMV 2 Go Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony Set for June 7
RICHMOND - DMV's new mobile customer service center, called DMV 2 Go, will enhance services provided by the Amherst DMV Select on June 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held that day in front of the DMV 2 Go unit beginning at 11 a.m. at the Amherst DMV Select at 200 Richmond Highway, Suite 101.
The 57 DMV Selects throughout the state are operated by private citizens and local governments that contract with DMV to conduct mostly vehicle-related transactions. Instead of visiting a full-service DMV customer service center, customers can conduct many routine motor vehicle-related services at this convenient location in Amherst.
DMV Selects do not issue driver's licenses, learner's permits or ID cards, and that's where DMV 2 Go provides supplemental services. "Our mobile office will enhance the great work the DMV Selects are already doing," said DMV Commissioner Richard D. Holcomb.
DMV 2 Go is a handicapped-accessible full service office that can provide all DMV transactions including driver's licenses and ID cards. Customers can update their address on their DMV record, and update their voter registration address. A wireless Virginia Internet portal is available with information on other Virginia government services. DMV 2 Go is equipped with the latest wireless technology to accomplish the needed connection to DMV's computer systems. The wireless capability allows the units to provide secure service at virtually any location.
